The star has given the full amount of his twenty-five thousand pound Mercury Prize winnings to the trust for venues, which functions to protect the UK's independent music venues.

The star was presented with the prize on mid-October as his new release the album was chosen as the best record of the previous year.

Fender has chosen to give the cash to the MVT, in recognition of the essential function small stages had in his beginning days.

"I personally wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the performances I did around the region, and beyond, when I was beginning," stated Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are in difficulty."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these venues have shut down – roughly one-sixth of the entire UK sector.

Recently, major artists including Pulp, the group Coldplay, the singer Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the trust in its initiatives to support the industry, by adding a minor surcharge to their ticket prices, which benefits smaller concert halls.

Sam Fender also joined in, generating more than £100,000 on his 2024 arena tour to help numerous grassroots venues across the UK.

The money supported locations that were dealing with imminent closure due to difficulties arising from water damage, blazes and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and sound issues.

Additional spaces were granted funding support in improving facilities and gear that helped musicians and concertgoers.

"The notion that funds from shows in major spaces helps the smaller venues, where it begins for artists like me, is just logical," Fender has commented.

He is not the first artist to donate his honor funds to good deeds.

Back when Pulp earned the award in 1996 for their record the album, lead singer the singer declared that the group would donate their winnings to the non-profit War Child.

In 2002, musician she divided her bounty across several charities, such as the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I contributed a £1,000 to my local community centre, to their classes, because I did gymnastics when I was a child and they needed better apparatus," Ms Dynamite told a publication.

In recent years, the band donated their prize money to the community center that supported their group, as well as other grassroots music organisations.

Additionally winners that year the group gave their winnings to a charity for MS after a close contact was found to have the condition.

"Receiving the award was sufficient," remarked vocalist the singer. "The money was the extra but we didn't need the extra, because we had the honor. So our victory touched the lives of others."

Last week, the Music Venues Trust shared it had protected a couple of local spots in that region, by placing them under local control.

One venue in that area and the second in the city were purchased under the Own Our Venues program, which is backed by the arts council and music fans who buy "shares" in the venues.
